Although the British summer never really got started this year it has officially ended with the cold dark nights setting in. The large majority of people will be limited to the odd game on a weekend and maybe an occasional visit to the driving range after work. Although your time on the golf course might be limited there is still a great opportunity to work on your game and ensure that you will see improvement.
Making any significant change to the swing can be difficult and it requires a great deal of work and effort to change deep ingrained patterns. When your are playing a lot of golf it becomes even harder to make changes as natural instincts kick in when you’re out on the course. Living in the UK means we have a lengthy off season which can be a great opportunity to work on our swings and make significant changes to mechanics without losing valuable competition time.
How will you know what to work on? The trouble with trying to figure it out on your own is feel vs real. It’s a well known fact in golf instruction that what you feel you’re doing and what you’re actually doing is rarely the same, that is why using video to accurately analyse technique is so important. Having a clear understanding of what is causing the poor shots and the correct fix will help give you a clear focus and then practice sessions can be planned that will actually benefit your game. Don’t be that guy who mindlessly hits 100’s of balls at the driving range every week and actually gets worse.
